A mute alien crash lands in Harlem chased by outer-space bounty hunters in this thought-provoking low budget cult classic. Brother From Another Planet is not your typical sci-fi outing. It is a surprisingly well acted film with an engaging story that defies the tiny $400k budget. Look closely for several rising stars like David Strathairn, Fisher Stevens and the lead character Joe Morton. The story is rich and solid enough to hold up to multiple viewings which helps explain why this has become a cult classic. The story connects on many levels. Parts of it feel like a retelling of the underground railroad from the civil war era in US history while parts of it feel like a precursor to big budget movies like Men in Black from the alien's perspective.

A songwriter and a artist share a flat in an artists-friendly establishment. One is in love with the girl next door but the other enjoys stringing her along. Someone is wealthy but he doesn't like people to know. And the girl next door has a father with a fiery temper. The songs are rather catchy and pleasant, and singers such as Kenny Baker and Janet Martin move them along. Attempts at comedy come off well as does the (slight) drama as the story unfolds. 'Calendar Girl' is a cheaply-made B picture from Poverty Row but, for all that, it isn't bad, and will keep you entertained.

After a brief informal meeting two months earlier when they were impressed with each other, Countess Marie Walewska formally meets Napoleon Bonaparte at a ball in Warsaw. When Napoleon notes her husband is three times her age, and as he is taken with her charms, he unsuccessfully tries to seduce her. She ignores his frequent letters and flowers until a few grim Polish leaders led by Senator Malachowski urge her to give into his desires as a personal sacrifice in order to save Poland. She goes to him despite the humiliation of her husband, who leaves for Rome to annul their marriage. They are extremely happy for a while; Napoleon divorces childless Empress Josephine and Marie eventually becomes pregnant. She is about to tell Napoleon about her baby when he tells her he decided to marry Archduchess Marie Louise of Austria. Alan Arkin and Rutger Hauer star in this award winning movie about the successful mass escape of 300 prisoners from the Sobibor Nazi death camp. Gut-wrenching and riveting through the entire length of this dramatization of how Jewish civilians and Jewish-Russian soldiers managed to escape the Sobibor death camp. This is an emotionally charged and well done movie. It is both painful to watch as a reminder of the history of the German-agenda during Hitler's reign as well as inspiring for eventual freedom achieved. Not only were Alan Arkin and Rutger Hauer excellent in their roles but so was the entire cast. Fine acting and production values make this film a worthwhile viewing experience.

This is the movie that started it all. In 1903, an employee of Thomas Edison's motion picture company produced what is likely the first movie with a story line. Named The Great Train Robbery
, it told a simple story of a group of western criminals that steal money from a train and later are killed by a group of police in a gun fight. The movie was so extremely popular that it launched the motion picture industry.

This RKO film, directed by John Cromwell, tells the story of a club-footed, sensitive artist Philip Carey (Leslie Howard), an Englishman who has been studying painting in Paris for four years, but is advised by his art teacher that his work is mediocre and second-rate, and that he lacks promise. So he returns to London, England to take up studies to become a medical doctor, but his older age and introspection make it difficult for him to keep up in his scholastic work. In England, he becomes infatuated - and then obsessed by a blonde, lower-class, slatternly and vulgar, Cockney-accented, illiterate tearoom waitress named Mildred Rogers (Bette Davis).
This film was the first film to bring real critical success to its star Bette Davis. Her over-the-top theatrical performance was passed over for a Best Actress Oscar nomination, although she was an unofficial write-in candidate.

Hint for Downloading Large Files
These files can be very large and take a long time to download even if you have a fast connection because the server load can be very high. For this reason we strongly suggest using a file download manager like the DownThemAll Firefox add-on.
The DownThemAll add-on has the ability to queue many files for transfer at a later time when bandwidth is more likely to be available and it can optionally request different parts of each file simultaneously to shorten the total transfer time.
This list is a small representation out of a very large selection of video content available on the archive.org web site. Please let us know if we missed one of your favorites.
