About The Author
The IPAD-OS Technical Guide is the first book published by Mr. Casey Sprangel of the IFX Group. It is now available for sale through the IPAD Owners Association, Inc. at www.ipadowners.org/books.
Casey Sprangel has the unique experience, history and perspective that shows in this book and all of his writings. He joined eSoft, Inc. in 1994 when the first version of the IPAD was still in the early stages of being created. This allowed him to personally witness the philosophy, reasoning and thought processes that went into the core IPAD design.
He also was part of the first IPAD technical support team and has personal experience helping Internet Service Providers all over the world solve problems and use their IPADs more effectively. This position also allowed him to influence refinements in the IPAD itself to better match the way it was used in the real world.
Mr. Sprangel was a major force behind writing technical notes for the IPAD to explain a wide range of topics not covered in the user documentation provided by eSoft. Many of those technical notes are still just as useful today more than a decade later.
Soon Casey Sprangel, a certified trainer, was traveling the world in an official technical training capacity for eSoft. He has developed and presented training materials for many different groups ranging from novice users, employees, and sales representatives to experienced technical support staff for small and large companies all over the world.
Early in 2000, Mr. Sprangel joined the newly formed IPAD Owners Association, Inc. (IOA) development team when they purchased the rights to the IPAD-OS source code. He single-handedly updated the IPAD's web management interface to refine and make it possible to use over any speed connection while still retaining the same comfortable look and feel.
He also is a major contributing writer for the official IOA web site. A large number of the technical notes on the IOA web site were authored by him. He has helped other authors with editing for their technical notes to make them easier to understand and more useful for the average IPAD owner.
Mr. Sprangel is a regular trainer at the IPADCON events covering topics even seasoned experts often misunderstand or forget. He freely promotes the training materials he develops for IPADCON sessions to all IPAD owners to be used in training their employees and customers. He openly offers his presentation skills to help other IPADCON speakers and trainers become more effective with their materials.
Over the years he has written many tools, utilities and specialized programs to help IPAD owners and operators use their IPAD in new and powerful ways. Some of these tools run directly on the IPAD while others work with the IPAD through network connections. Some of these tools may be found on the IFX Group web site.
The attendees of IPADCON 2003 took part in several in-depth discussions and surveys to help identify the most pressing needs for an IPAD owner and the best use of the available resources to meet those needs. This group also was very open and candid with the IOA officers and Mr. Sprangel in sharing their problems with using and understanding the IPAD. The IPAD-OS Technical Guide book is a direct result of these encounters. Please take notice, if you want to make a difference in the IPAD direction - attend an IPADCON! This book would not exist without the time and open comments from past attendees.
Mr. Sprangel started working on the IPAD-OS Technical Guide book while still attending IPADCON 2003 as a speaker. The process of gathering all of the required information and presenting it in the most direct and easy to understand format took the better part of a year to complete. During the writing of this book he has completely researched through the history of all IPAD documentation including some previously unpublished works and internal development notes never before available to the public. This even included walking through the IPAD source code to identify completely undocumented parts of the IPAD-OS and how to use them. This turned up some information long lost to even the programmers that have worked on the operating system over the past decade.
Casey Sprangel is widely regarded as an expert and authority on the IPAD-OS design and philosophy. He has dedicated his time and continuing research into all IPAD functions to refine and expand future versions of the IPAD-OS Technical Guide. He plans to release an updated IPAD-OS Technical Guide book along with each new IPAD version created. This ambitious goal is much more than any addendum can cover, so only complete books are made available.
